Position Description:

Perform CAE structural durability analyses for Fuel components and sub-systems. Interact with Global PTI Fuel D&R teams globally and provide structural durability assessment to meet/reduce product development time and cost. The job may also involve linear and non-linear static structural analyses, visco-elastic and thermal stress analyses, etc. For example: Carry out non-linear fuel tank installation analyses (ABAQUS implicit) with sliding contacts Support DV efficiency efforts (physical test reduction) leading to more analytical based design process: Help design component/sub-system/system level tests to validate CAE models Participate in developing new CAE durability methodology tackling current and future design problems more efficiently and accurately. Develop and perform simple analysis on reduced or simplified math models to make designing and testing more efficient. Develop and write Corporate test methods for CAE analytical procedures Interpret system and sub-system test results and explain their impact on part functionality and performance to product engineer to assist design and problem-solving process. Support road load data collection (identification and location of sensors to support fuel system FEA analyses), & inspection of data. Interact with test facility for key life tests. Support Fuel GPDS process and manage CAE DV plan for vehicle programs


Skills Required:

Solid understanding of physics related to durability performance of structures. Proficient in using pre-processing software: ANSA or Hypermesh. Be able to run NASTRAN solutions 101, 103, 108, 109, 111, and 112. Proficiency and experience with Abaqus (structural, thermal stress, large displacements, nonlinear materials, plastic deformation, sliding contacts, etc.). Ability to understand and conduct random vibration durability assessments. Knowledge of tools such as MATLAB and/or Python are required.


Skills Preferred:

Experience with CATIA, LS-Dyna/Radioss, ANSYS Mechanical and FSI, LMS. Experience with CAE optimization tools (Optistruct, Tosca, ModeFrontier, or HEEDS). Work experience of correlation of CAE results with physical testing. Hands-on lab experience


Experience Required:

At least 3-4 years of experience in automotive/fuel system Structural Durability is required.

Experience Preferred:


Education Required:

Bachelor's in Mechanical, Civil, or related engineering field is required. Solid education and background in FEA, Continuum Mechanics, Plasticity, mechanical vibration, fatigue, fracture mechanics, strength of materials, and viscoelasticity.

PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical, or related engineering field is preferred.


Good communication, work ethics, leadership and team working skills. Analytical problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a multicultural team.
